Advisory: RCPU (10 Points) / Apply for an RCPU Job

  • Report Card Pickup (RCPU) will be Friday, 11/7/14, from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
    • If your parents have paid all your fees, they will be able to start conferences at 2 PM, allowing them an hour to see your teachers before all the other parents arrive.
    • The attendance of at least one of your parents or guardians at RCPU will be a 10-point Advisory grade.
  • The following RCPU jobs are open to brothers of Mr. Rosentel’s Advisory:
    • GREETER
      • You must be friendly and personable, representing the Advisory with positivity and professionalism. Please be ready to handle the stress of upset parents waiting to see Mr. Rosentel after having waited longer than they want. In such situations, you must be both warm with parents but firm on the schedule.
    • SCHEDULER
      • You must be highly organized and unafraid to stop a conversation if the allotted time ends. Please be ready to handle the stress of upset parents after having waited longer than they want with fairness and flexibility. In such situations, you must be warm with parents but – and this is key – firm on the schedule.
    • TRANSLATOR
      • You must speak Spanish and be able to quickly translate Mr. Rosentel’s English into Spanish that helps parents understand his message and parents’ Spanish into English that helps Mr. Rosentel understand their message. As Mr. Rosentel will occasionally throw out a Spanish word or phrase in an embarrassing accent, you should maintain your composure, try not to laugh, and help Mr. Rosentel and the parents return to a common understanding. Since many parents speak English, you will often be needed outside to help translate and maintain order with the Greeter and Scheduler.
  • If you are chosen to be the Greeter, Scheduler, or Translator, you must arrive at Pritzker by 1:15 PM on Friday, 11/7/14 in your uniform or in professional clothes (tie required in that case). At that time, you will receive pizza, and, after completing your work and filling out the service forms, 6 hours of community service.
  • In order to apply, schedule an interview with Mr. Rosentel before or after school by Thursday, 11/6/14, and bring him a resume. If you do not have a resume, use the ReadWriteThink Resume Generator to design one.

Pritzker Takes Home Ribbons from Huntley

Following the Speech Team’s first tournament of the year, at Huntley High School on October 25, 2014, Mr. Watkins sent the following email to the Pritzker staff:

This Saturday, the Pritzker Speech Team woke up early and traveled to Huntley, Illinois to compete in the first tournament of our promising season.

We brought three competitors – returning member, sophomore Joe Mendoza; and new members, sophomore Jarissa Vega and freshman Jazlyn Zavala. Sophomore Maria Santillan came as a spectator.

Joe walked away from the tournament with a fourth place ribbon in Original Oratory, an event that requires him to write his own 8 minute speech. Jarissa, in her first tournament ever, took first place in the poetry section with a collection of poems on love. Jazlyn, after only one week to prepare, walked away with some great lessons learned and some new friends made.

All in all, it was a great, although very long, Saturday. We look forward to returning to Huntley for another tournament in three weeks’ time.

Next weekend, Jazlyn and the rest of the debate team look forward to competing at Fremd for their third tournament of the season.

Special shutout to Igor for making the one+ hour drive to judge two semifinals and a finals round! We couldn’t have done it without you!

Pritzker Debate Wins JV, Has 6 Medalists at Fenwick

In its second tournament in two weeks, the Pritzker Speech and Debate Team won the Junior Varsity division and saw six of its debaters place at the Fenwick Debate Tournament in Oak Park on Saturday.

Senior Monica Garcia went undefeated in her first tournament of the year, winning the JV division and finishing just ahead of fellow senior and captain Ben Martinez, who went 3-1 and finished second in JV among seven competitors.

Freshman Adrian Ochoa also finished with a 3-1 record and a second place trophy* in the Novice division. Among the six top place finishers, Pritzker freshmen took three more spots: Nadia Segura came in fourth, Iyanna King in fifth, and Jazlyn Zavala in sixth.

Sophomores Oscar Albizures and Raul Salazar each won two rounds, and junior Diana Segovia took down Raul in another round. Given Pritzker’s overwhelming presence at the tournament, multiple Jaguars competed against each other at various points throughout the day, earning competitive experience even if cannibalizing each other. Expecting to spectate, Mike Guzman stepped up to debate four straight rounds and left the tournament even more energetic and eager than before it began.

We thank Ms. Brick, Ms. Lifka, and Mr. Bilsky for giving up their Saturday to judge the tournament.

Look for the team to compete in speech next weekend and once again in Lincoln-Douglas debate on November 1st at Fremd High School.

*Trophies and medals will be shipped and will soon join last week’s hardware in the second floor trophy case.

Pritzker Speech and Debate Brings Home Trophy

Following the Debate Team’s first tournament of the year, at Schaumburg High School on October 11, 2014, Mr. German sent the following email to the Pritzker staff:

The Pritzker Speech and Debate team is back with a little experience, a lot of young talent, and a ferocious appetite for wins. We started the season this weekend at the Schaumburg High School Invitational – surrounded by 200 registered debaters – by stomping on some suburban schools.

The schools at this opening tournament make up arguably the most competitive debate league in the country – our kids went up against the teams that have produced the state champion in Lincoln-Douglas Debate for the past twenty-six years and consistently send kids to the National Tournament. These places are institutions in the competitive debate world, and our debaters gave them a serious run:

Freshman Nadia Segura (in her first ever tournament) brought home a 5th place trophy and had the 4th highest speaker points in her division, taking home our first ever trophy. With one more win, she would’ve have won the entire tournament.

Junior Michael Jasso, also in his first tournament, had the 5th highest speaker points in his division comprised of 31 other debaters. The judges were impressed with his calm demeanor and verbal finesse.

Freshmen Adrian Ochoa and Jazlyn Zavala all demonstrated poise, energy, and insightful cross-examinations. Senior Ben Martinez shook off the rust and, after adjusting to the speed of Junior Varsity, is ready to win next weekend.

The team will be competing next weekend at Fenwick High School and hopes to start crowding the 2nd-floor trophy case soon.
